First day at no. 1 dairy and it was all good despite having poo flying over my head.(luckily i'm short) Before milking, Hamish passed me an oversized apron and i was told to wear gloves. SO i assumed everything would be relatively sterile. It took me a while to get the hang of putting on the suction cups over the teats. Just when i was finally getting the hang of it, a waterfall of poo shot out from one of the cow. I dodged and managed to get away. Hamish reckoned i was quite alright with a motor bike since i wasn't too fast.He was observing me as a pillion rider and i was pretty nervous. There were only 3 of us at the farm--- including a farm worker from Argentina. He's really cool and he taught me a spanish word today. "Baggar"=cow. I'm trying very hard to be strong and useful but even so, i'm quite enjoying dairy work. Hopefully the weather is good enough for me to leave the house early tomorrow. Milking starts at 630am.Today was thundering so i got there at 8am. I don't want to risk my life driving in the pouring rain.
Had dinner with Sam at burger fuel after getting rid of all the poo. I realised i had splatters all over my face and i'm not exaggerating at all. My sleeves got poo on it. Smart of me to get a vest instead of a long sleeve yesterday. Or else i might have to wash it everyday.
p.s. i was kicked by a cow today while i was trying to attach the suction cups. Luckily it was only my arm. It kept me on alert after that.
